New Vocaloid Announced: Megurine Luka!

We had Miku, then we had siblings Rin and Len, and now Megurine Luka! Crypton Future Media has just announced that they’re releasing the 3rd character vocaloid series on January 30th.

Still dunno what’s a Vocaloid software? Sheez, you’re slow. Here.

Of course, although it’s synthesized, the voice must come from somewhere right? Crypton recorded Fujita Saki’s voice, a singer and seiyuu (voice actress), and put them into Miku’s database. She should be paid a lot coz her voice is all over the net! Then along came Shimoda Asami, known for providing voice and song to Idolmaster, Kyo no Go no Ni and of course, Rin and Len.

The voice of the upcoming Luka is provided by a popular seiyuu. It’s none other than Asakawa Yuu, known for providing voices for Sakaki of Azumanga, Motoko of Love Hina and Itoko of School Rumble, among others.

As you might’ve noticed, she usually gives voices to serious long-black-haired Sukeban-like girls. Wah Aidi, you like la. Here’s a preview of her wonderful synthesized voice:

I have to say, her voice sounds quite natural, and I can imagine it used in a more mature overtone compared to the previous two characters, hence a little less irritating. Kei (who drew Miku, Rin and Len) did a great job with the character design yet again. She looks hawt!

Here’s looking forward to fan-made Luka music videos sprouting all over the net!

Festival Special 6.5: Comiket 75 (Tuesday)

And now, on to the last day of Comiket!

I never learn my lesson, do I?

Wah, it’s even more crowded today!!! Well, it is, uh, H-day if you know what I mean ^^;;

This is the very same east hall as yesterday, this time you can’t even see the floor properly.

One of the first places I went to. Studio Kimigabuchi does Gainax doujinshis and is damn good at it! The art is great, and no characters out of proportions here! Hehehe, proportions, hehehehhe….

Unfortunately, only 1 hour after Comiket was opened, a few famous doujin circles were already closed. This was Ryohka’s stall, and the same went for Tony Taka X_X Sorry Sora, by the time I reached the counter, he was only taking Internet reservations. I am epic failz.

For any famous circles, to even *browse* through their stuff fans had to line up. This one is for the Pussy Cat circle, malas to join this one la. I don’t even know them :3 <-- hehe, pussy cat.

Note to self, NEVER postpone your cosplay event visits to the last hour.

At least it’s *relatively* rare to see Haruhi in the fantasy RPG costume.

Haha, his sulky face matched Cloud to the tee.

Kamina-sama! Amazing, you’re still… uh, never mind.

Nothing to see here, kids. Move along, move along…

Moeru ze, chou moeru ze!

I guess Ayu-chan got a little older.

Sunohara had the size to bully her back!

This is definitely the cutest cosplayer in the entire event. So natural and sweet X3

But nothing beats this comiket pic! XD And hey, my first lolspeak pic! No cats though :(

Yes I’ve done it! Every blog needs to have at least one Nice Boat pic. I rock.

You can take this ferry to come to Tokyo Big Sight as well. But there’s another reason why I left early to walk to the port. If you think I’m an otaku…

…then you have seen nothing yet. Welcome to the world of Itasha, where crazed fans decorate their *expensive* cars with anime decals and interiors. Man, I wouldn’t even want to decorate my Kenari this way, let alone a sports car!

No Konata, No Life eh? I guess this is one way of making her your wife.

Yay, Touhou! I wonder if the owner drives like how he avoids bullets.

How’s that for a Yukkuri Shite Itte ne parody? ^^;; I’m lamez.

A lot of puppets in the car O.O Moving on…

At least his dashboard looked like my table back in Malaysia :P

Oh, I like the design on this one. Notice the Lucky Strike parody, nice.

Most of the others were like some amateurish anime wallpaper smacked on to a car, but this one followed the car’s shape well. The typeface looked great too.

One of the motorbikes cursed by Oyashiro-sama, said to have one explode and another one stolen every year.

Shana fans, would you like to be seen riding this bike?

*Higurashi spoiler alert* A car dedicated to Hanyuu!

Aauuu, Rena-chan… please don’t use me for target practice.

Fan of Kotonoha of School Days! Now this is a car owner with a sense of humour *thumbs up*

You can find someone’s head in a bag, somewhere in the backseat…

Nothing like Miku’s voice pulsing through your car speakers as you go for a ride.

For those who dunno Japanese, 3 is san or mi (depending on context) and 9 is kyu or ku. So Miku translates to 39. Sankyu (the engrish Thank you) also comes to 39. Sankyu, Miku! Either it’s a fake license plate number, or the owner is passionate and RICH. I’m guessing the latter.

This is just a bus used for advertising. You might not be able to see them, but there are big plasma screens on each window showing promo videos. Sometimes you can see these buses driving through Shibuya and Shinjuku, showing promos of j-music albums, anime, games, etc.

And while waiting for the train home, you can see a WHOLE BUNCH of anime posters pasted all over the station walls. Awesome.

And that ends my first experience of Comiket. Overwhelming, man. Super overwhelming. Yet, I can’t wait to go for Comiket 76, sometime next August!

Oh yea, I can’t show you the spoils of war this time ^^;; hehheheeeheehh…

Ok need to get ready to meet my cousins. We’re going someplace for some new year countdown. Happy new year everyone!

Festival Special 6: Comiket 75 (Monday)

Woooooooo, that was GREAT!!! SAIKOU DA ZE! My first trip to Comiket was enjoyable… tiring, but enjoyable! To be surrounded by so many talented folks and people who have the same interest as you, it felt so gooooood.

So good, that I didn’t have time to take many pics. Just following megu-chan’s advice here: don’t care about pictures, just have fun. Damn right I did! :D But don’t worry, there are still enough pics to explain all the excitement, at least.

I went around noon, but the crowd was still huge. I can’t imagine how it’s like in the morning.

No prize for guessing what’s gonna go inside that bag.

This is the hallway to the *entrance* of the halls, and there’s just barely enough space to walk!

And this is where I started, the East Hall, full of doujin parodies of my favourite series.

Such as Aria, of course! The artist went so far as to cosplay Akari as well.

Love the tie! Asked him where he got it, and he said it’s been sold out since a year ago. A whole lot of people asked him to sell it, including me :P

I would really love to thank this guy and another 2 great doujin circles called Chocolate Box and Laputa for giving up the last issue of their doujinshis, after much persuasion :3 Chocolate Box even gave another doujinshi for free, after I displayed my sheer fanboyism!

Also, there was this damn passionate artist who cosplayed as Aria’s Alice and went all the way to Venice to take actual photos! They looked great, and of course she took all the familiar locations, including San Marco Square and the inside of Cafe Florian. Didn’t buy the photo album because I pokai liao~

After seeing all the various stories and art styles, my eyes had to take a rest @_@ Didn’t even have time to browse ‘em all!

Of course I skipped all the yaoi ones. A few times I damn blur and opened their doujinshi to see… see… 2 anime male leads… *uwek~*

Begone, imagery!

I observed a few groups in this resting area. Just like you see in Lucky Star and Genshiken, friends gathered here and crossed out list of wanted doujinshis. I saw money lying on the floor, and they were distributing it among themselves. Obviously, each guy was assigned to buy in bulk from different booths. This is what Comiket is all about, man!

And now for round 2! Here, we have mostly Miku soundtracks and handmade doujin merchandise. By the time I got here, my pockets were almost empty TT_TT I only reserved a little money for this event, coz moving to a new house was very costly *sob*

This is me trying to hide my tired face and long glee. hehehehehhzzzzzzhehezzzzzhehehzzzz

Now to another part of the west hall, where they had official companies set up shop. Most had “No pictures allowed!”, but I knew Kyoani had a soft spot for its fans ^_^ Munto OVA was their very first project, and now it’s gonna be turned to a TV series, coming in Jan!

I love Good Smile Company. They come up with the best figures, ever!

Here are some upcoming figures. I can already hear my wallet crying.

They look so cool when they’re together.

Nagi!!! Even comes with the fairy stick for extra win ;)

Yes, megu-chan, I can hear you yearning for the one on the left. Wait a little while more yea!

To those who haven’t watched Kyouran Kazoku Nikki, watch it now! Doesn’t an anime that feature a cat-eared goddess, a lion, a jellyfish, an android and 4 quirky humans forced to live together as a family for world peace interest you at all?

Kagami cosplaying as Miku from the OVA… omg… *faints*

And phew, I’m finally home! Got myself some Aria, Hidamari Sketch, Hyakko, Sketchbook and Zetsubou Sensei doujinshis, plus Klonoa Fan Disc 3. Of course, I got one for you too, Benjamin ;)

There you have it! First day of Comiket, complete. I’ll focus more on the cosplays and other otaku goodness tomorrow. I have an arrangement in the late afternoon, so I could only make it for the first half.

Well, to summarize the event:

Anime Eyecatch

My internet is still down, but I think it’ll be up by tomorrow. I think. =_=;;

I’m in a Manga cafe now, where each customer is given a room to read manga, do work and most importantly, use the Internet! Since I can’t transfer pictures to the computer, I’ll do the next best thing… link a YouTube video!

Hayate no Gotoku has a simple yet interesting eyecatch before and after adverts. Slap a familiar background, bring in the logo of the show, make it smaller, then swipe in a character and say something, usually a parody of another anime or game.

One guy from Nico Nico Douga decided to take it one step further.

Scary enough, I’ve watched ALL the anime listed, each from the 1st ep till the end, including Hayate no Gotoku itself :S Some of my faves are in there! See how many you can recognize!

And can you guess what links one sentence to the next?

Miku Vids

I truly believe that once some people are given the right tools, their potential will get unlocked and be freed onto the world.

Give one person a singing voice synthesizer software like Hatsune Miku, for example, s/he who otherwise can’t even sing crap can create an original vocal track. Give another person Adobe After Effects and a 3D software, a whole new MTV can be made for it. Two people are just enough to create a few truly original artsy musical extravaganzas.

You know, like these.

Last Night, Good Night

Black Rock Shooter

And this just in this month in Nico Nico Douga: Yukkuri Shite Itte ne!!!

I strongly advise everyone to appreciate this doujin (amateur) culture. Bask in their greatness!!

Lucky Star dance by Haruhi Cast (Complete!)

I wanted to post pictures of my Father’s Day cooking here, but my dad hasn’t emailed me the pictures yet, so… let’s go for the next best thing!

About 6 months ago, there was a half-way preview of the Haruhi cast doing the Lucky Star dance. It was unlike the other parodies which just change the characters and all that. This fan-made video is in 3D, plus there’s professional-looking cinematic compositions involved.

This month, all Kyoani fans rejoice! The movie is finally complete! Courtesy of Nico Nico Douga, of course (where else?).

Waaaaahhh, pssshhhhhtt psssshhhttt psssshhhhhtttt (up to you to interpret my reaction).

p/s – This is the 100th post for simply ahbonk.net (not counting my previous 2 blogs). Big tenkyu shoutout to all you readers, hope I can keep ‘em posts coming!

Osu!

Who here likes the DS music game Ouendan and EBA? *ME!* *ME!* Well, your prayers have been answered, with Osu!, the downloadable version of the game! And yup, you guessed it, you can download from a huge list of songs (called beatmaps) created by the Osu! community!

This is not just a simple music game emulator, mind you. Unlike Mixwaver and Drummania DTX, this game has a slick interface and, if you register with their forums, you’ll be able to compete online, post to a global scoreboard and even see online replays of other experts!

So whatcha waiting for? Click here to go to the Osu! website!

OSU! TATAKAE! OUENDAN!

Dead Fantasy I & II

If you’re into 3D fighting games, Final Fantasy or… hell, just watch this video! It’s AWESOME, and you won’t regret it!

Isn’t that the craziest and awesomest fan video ever?!

Just look at that 3D goodness! Monty Oum is a genius. He managed to make the video epic like Advent Children but having the mood and ambience of the in-game experience usually found in 3D fighting games and RPGs: the fighting stances, the character voices, the sound effects, the world and the camera angles. It all syncs in fan service perfection.

Super thanks to Yu San for sharing this vid. My life is now more complete.

Oh yea, Rikku, Tifa and Ayane FTW!

Chu Chu Lovely Higurashi

Remember Higurashi no Naku Koro ni? It’s the psycho-moe anime thriller that I talked about in an earlier entry here.

I just stumbled upon its MAD a few hours ago. MAD doesn’t stand for anything — it’s a fan-made video done by a Japanese (as opposed to Anime Music Videos, AMVs, done by Americans). Normally I prefer MADs to AMVs because MADs tend to use effects synchronized with music similar to anime openings and endings. Click here for definition of MAD.

Anyway, this MAD is done by a Japanese dude called Rurisis. He’s an experienced MAD contributor of Nico Nico Douga. Click here for his website.

It’s really well-edited (read: A LOT of After Effects work!) and summarizes Higurashi for the cutesy and violent blood-splashing anime that it is. This could very well be an alternate opening to the show. Check it out!

The song rocks, coz it’s by Maximum the Hormone, famous for my #2 favourite opening of 2007, Death Note.

Chu chu lovely muni muni mura mura purin purin boron nururu rero rero!

Gainax Awesome Fanvid

Got this from Japanator. If you have ever watched any Gainax production, be it Evangelion, Secret of Blue Water, Gunbuster, FLCL, KareKano, Mahoromatic or Gurren Lagann, do yourself a favour and watch this superb spoiler-free fan compilation.

It’s like a super-long opening of Gainax shows with really good timing. Awesome!!

After the intermission towards the end of the vid, you can see how the composition matched the original intro, which belongs to Busou Renkin (top-left).

Alright, don’t think I’ll be blogging for a week, coz the Casual Game Design Competition deadline is around the corner (1 more week!). It’s time to burn that midnight oil!
