DIY, i saw somewhere there is this book that is like japanese primary school but for foreigners that actually categorise kanji not by grades but pattern i.e. if u look "far" and "near", the similarity would be the "slide" pattern LOL.

Its funny how u can know all the the kanji but would not know the language itself. My reason for learning is so i can buy japanese videogames without waiting for english translation. Lame i know but sometimes the reason is just that obvious.

I know http://www.kanjisite.com. Each kanji shows other kanjis that are similar to it.

What I did was sort the kanjis into its similar elements in my own little notebook, but after a while it got a little impossible to sort. Not only are there many unique kanji shapes, some kanjis share two or more similar elements, making it hard to put it under which element.

For example, kitanai (http://www.kanjisite.com/images/kanji/2kb/o_kitana.gif) would belong under the water element (three strokes on the left).
But sei (http://www.kanjisite.com/images/kanji/2kb/sei_manufacture.gif) is unique so it doesn't belong anywhere (maybe the two-on-top-but-one-below category?)
the mu of gimu (http://www.kanjisite.com/images/kanji/2kb/mu_tsuto.gif) is complicated, so which is the main element?

So after awhile, I categorized only three-quarters of JLPT 2 kanjis and gave up for Level 1 ones. Reading and writing over and over again will yield a more slowly-but-surely result.

Hi,

Im trying to learn kanji basics and i noticed that most of them are similar but with variations for instance "far" and "near"; "cloud", "rain" and "thunder". R there any good resources that teach based on pattern instead of grade 1, 2 and so on.
