Good Ol’ Internet in My New Home

A crazy few weeks it has been: from work visas to moving house. What’s more important than all of this though is – When am I gonna get my Internets?!

The answer arrived last Monday as NTT came over to install the 100mbps network. Saved at last!

Oh yea, my mom’s research in Tokyo has ended and now she’s back in Malaysia. Since the previous room was meant for 2 people, I had to move out. Now I’m staying in West Shinjuku, around a 15-minute walk to my new workplace.

I haven’t sorted the place out yet lol. Tons of stuff to do (i.e. ps3 games to play *ahem*). My work/play area is complete though!

The same monitor for my computer, PS3 and Wii. World domination starts here!

Btw I have posted more game idea callouts in my game idea think tank blog, bonkify! Even created a bonkify! facebook page. Look at the sidebar on the right for details!

And I just got my 10 mbps line. 10 times the upgrade of my previous internet line.

But…I’m still like 10 times behind you.

    • ahbonk says:

And just imagine, all it takes for you to be 10 times faster is a 6-hour journey here. When are you coming dude?!

    • Fabian says:

I’m working on it. Seriously!!! I’ll keep you posted or I can tell you personally when you get back to msia next month.

Thus I can say “when ahbonk embark on the road of world domination, I was there…though it was far,far way” ^^. Nice pad man.

  5. Ahbonk, a little OT here, I’ve been slapped in the face with countless articles about how HTML5, JQuery and CSS3 are dethroning Flash’s place. I’ve been torn in deciding if it’s worth continuing to learn AS3 in such a situation.

As an AD, it’s been tough for me to continue investing time practicing AS3 and I’ve noticed clients expressing interests to transition from Adobe’s platform altogether.

I tried a bit of jQuery but I can’t grasp the logic. I have not touched AS3 for nearly four months in the light of Apple’s questionable crusade against the platform. Is it time to move on? I really don’t know what my role in coding is as a ‘designer’. I really think my cup is full and I can’t see myself re-learning from scratch…

As one of the lecturers that have taught us AS3, do you have any insights and advice on this? Should I just continue struggling with AS3?

Ok here’s my take on this: AS3 has a good history so far. It has proven to do things right, unfortunately it has also been used in the wrong way (flash intros? come on grow up already!).

Now we have all this HTML5 buzzing around, here’s a few things to consider: First, the debate against AS3 always uses the utmost worst examples to compare it with the light HTML5. Heavy flash intros, unnecessary animations etc. You and I know better that Flash has been utilized for way better usage than that. Second, Flash might be heavier, but it’s only coz HTML5 can’t do a whole lot of things Flash can. I wonder how many websites in FWA can be done in HTML5. Third, HTML5 does not have a proven history yet.

My advice is that you still continue learning AS3, coz that’s one technology that’s far from dying. And it will continue to improve. Adobe obviously sees HTML5 as a threat so they are doing their best to make Flash lighter or make it more adaptable. But keep up with the times and learn HTML5, no pressure, but in a slow but sure way. Utilize your current strengths well, is all I’m saying. Don’t throw it away. In the end though, I follow the /IF / method, which is to see the solution first and see what technology fits it best, not the other way around :)

hey hi … saw you dropping by from chito.. you guys friends ?? haha but i have not seen you in apiit. anyway how’s life there ya ?

  7. Thanks a lot for your insight Hazmer! I was really at a crossroads ti weather I give into the fray or continue to wield Adobe’s Excalibur. I will continue to further my studies in AS3. Might as well too..
