I dunno about you, but I’m digging the art.
Yea I know I haven’t been blogging in a while. Up to a whole lot of stuff lately, so I decided to make a short post.
Am a big fan of Phoenix Wright, you know that already. But we fans must wait patiently for the next *true courtroom sequel* (that excludes the Edgeworth game). Knowing this, Takumi Shuu, the renowned creator, instead of using common sense to conjure a Phoenix Wright sequel, has another creation up his mystery game sleeves.

Ghost Trick is like a spiritual successor to Phoenix Wright (LOL). The main character, Shissel, was shot dead, and as a wandering spirit who’s robbed off his memory he needs to find out who shot him. And in true Takumi style, he’s accompanied by cute lively Rinne, not as an assistant though. She’s the detective working on his case and her life is also in danger.
The other difference is, this time even the girl has a crazy hairdo.
We’ve all seen this spirit thingy before right. Maya, the bridge case, Pearls! It has gotta be Takumi’s trademark by now.

Shissel has more uber-skills now that he’s dead, including the ability to time-jump and walk around the scene near the timeframe of his death. Thanks to this, he can also rewrite history, saving others in the process. Possibly a great feature but also has potential to bring the game’s downfall.
You use Shissel’s “soul” to provide commands (Ayatsuru) via the touchscreen, which will then interact with the surroundings. In the Famitsu example scenario above, Shissel travels to 4 minutes before his death. You can see Shiigo the antagonist (heh heh is he now?) wielding a shotgun to Rinne. You connect Shissel’s soul to the shotgun and it flips out! Don’t trust me fully on this, I’m just trying my best to read the Famitsu scan above heh.
The idea sounds great but I’m slightly worried about its potential, especially in terms of number of cases, sequels, etc. And that time-skip-history-writing stuff fails 90% of the time. Still though, art looks great and I always appreciate mystery shows/games, moreover one done by Takumi. Anyone who has gone through his works knows that they’ll be in for plot twists and surprises for sure.
On top of that Okami sequel for DS, this game is something to look forward to. Coming out in 2010. More details will be revealed in the Tokyo Game Show. I’ll be at the Capcom booth for sure ;)
Still, you gotta love the classic.
