Eid Ul-Fitr in Tokyo

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to everyone! This is me cosplaying a Malay guy.

Curious how a Malay like me celebrates Aidilfitri in Tokyo? Here’s how!

First, we wore traditional Malay clothes all the way to Shibuya in the Yamanote line. Wonder if people mistook it for cosplay.

Wow the Japanese celebrate Raya too eh.

After a 15-minute walk from the station, we have reached the Malaysian embassy.

The architecture in the inside is cool, but I don’t really like the boxy look from the outside. Like some sort of fort.

Is it just me, or hasn’t it ALWAYS been sunny during Raya for the past years?

Daim and Jasril tagged along too. Dzaid couldn’t wake up in time.

Daim’s colleague, Micheal from the US, doesn’t like his photo to be taken, as you can see from his very American reaction. He said his forehead was itchy. Uh huh.

Of course free food is an important aspect of Raya ;) We had delicious Briyani with beef, courtesy of Ginza Rasa Malaysia restaurant.

We were also at the embassy for the photo shoot of our poster…

…which comes free with the limited edition of our latest album, coming out end of this month. Support original music!

Made some new friends who are studying in the Gunma area. From left: Elaine, Jia Hui from Taiping and Pik Yee from Negeri Sembilan.

Also met some old ones! We only met once during a game design conference in KL. Who would’ve thought the second meet would be in Tokyo :) They’re here for the Tokyo Game Show this weekend. The girl beside me and the dude both have Fairuz as their names!

The obligatory group picture of the event.

We wouldn’t want the beautiful architecture go to waste now would we?

Next, Daim and I went to Dzaid’s house for a little visit.

Actually more like a rest and relax session.

Being the great host that he is, he did Brewfest quests in World of Warcraft.

As with our usual tradition of Raya, we did a bunch of thematic group shots, this time without Aidi *sob*. This is the normal version.

And the cool version.

Oh gawd.

Finally, my mom invited the dudes to a little Raya do in our house.

Probably the only night of the year when our apartment makes a lot of noise. The walls are thin in Tokyo apartments, so everyone tries their best to not disturb each other.

Mama cooked Fried Beehoon, Ketupat Palas with Rendang Tok (Leaf-wrapped rice with meat sauce) and Ketupat with peanut sauce. Delish!

And that ends our busy Raya day in Tokyo. Hope you had a great Raya day too!

Happy belated Eid! Thumbs up for the post, I found it very interesting :D

You went and carted the sun to Japan, damn you. It was a pretty miserable Syawal 1st (except for gloomy evening photography, which I indulged in happily)
